Dawn Tyler Watson & Paul Deslauriers selected to represent the Montreal Blues Society at the International Blues Challenge held in Memphis!
Competitions were held by the Montreal Blues Society to choose their representative for 2012
to travel to Memphis to compete in the Blues Foundation's International Blues Challenge, which takes place Jan 31 - Feb 4, 2026. It is the world's largest gathering of Blues acts, filling clubs up and down Beale Street.
Last year Michael Jerome Browne was selected and made it to the semi-finals. This year the MBS is sending the ever-popular duo of Dawn Tyler Watson & Paul Deslauriers to compete in the solo/duo category.
On top of that, the duo was selected to perform at the FedEx International Showcase on the Tuesday before the competition begins. The event showcases artists from around the world including acts from South Africa, Croatia, Australia, France, Belgium, Russia to name a few.
To help with the expenses, the MBS is holding a fundraising campaign to raise some money to cover the flights and hotels. Dawn & Paul will perform a special concert at the legendary Blues venue, Bistro à Jojo to help with the fundraising. It should be a special night since it is Paul’s birthday and his band has accepted to play after the duo’s performance. You can expect a few surprise guests for this kind of an evening. Please come out and support the Montreal Blues Society.

Le héros de cette agréable cause a pour nom Paul Deslauriers. Guitariste au doigté infini, arrangeur hors pair, il a eu pour mission de créer la magie de ces rencontres. Sans son expertise et son enthousiasme, cette belle somme de musique ne serait certainement pas la même. Lui et ses amis musiciens ont su procurer à chaque nouvelle piste où ils ont travaillé la juste couleur. S'ajoutent à ces nouvelles interprétations des morceaux d'anthologie que nous ne voulions pas laisser passer. Le Québec « blues » depuis longtemps et ceux qui s'y sont adonnés avec maestria se devaient d'être salués. Ils le sont dûment.
The hero of this most enjoyable cause is none other than Paul Deslauriers. An infinitely skilled guitarist, a peerless arranger, his mission was to weave the magic from these musical encounters. Without his expertise and enthusiasm, this beautiful musical summation of the local blues spirit would certainly not have been the same. He and his musician friends were able to bring the perfect coloration to every facet of every track they worked on.

Dawn & Paul have been selected to kick off an evening with the honorable Dr. Maya Angelou in Montreal this month.
The succesful launch of Dawn & Paul's new CD was attended by over 200 people on Tuesday. The crowd consisted of media, friends, family, and musical elite from the Montreal area. The launch was a huge success, and fetured favorite cuts from the album like Trouble in Mind, Going to California, and Come Together. Thanks to all who came out.
